Knowledge Synthesis

Knowledge Synthesis is an area in health care delivery research that:

  • Evaluate and summarize all available evidence on a particular topic through comprehensive literature searches and advanced qualitative and quantitative synthesis methods.

  • Formats assessed include systematic reviews, meta-analyses, clinical practice guidelines and methodology research.

Student researchers will typically engage with knowledge syntheses by:
  1. developing a literature review or scoping review for their capstone project or dissertation,
  2. using critical appraisal frameworks, e.g. PICOT
  3. consulting existing literature reviews, e.g. within dissertations or research articles,
  4. finding systematic reviews developed on clinical topics through credible agencies,
  5. choosing a research methodology for their projects.
