What is Nursing Classification?

Nursing classification is the development of standardized nursing language systems that includes various nursing processes, including diagnoses, interventions and outcomes.

These classifications make it easier for nurses to:

  • select an intervention for a health care situation
  • use a computer to describe diagnoses and interventions with standardized labels
  • convey detailed care strategies, select health priorities and create policies aimed at improving health status and healthcare delivery
  • communicate key information about patient data
  • report statistics in a standardized manner
  • determine outcome indicators and measure achievement
